A monumental VELA sculpture in a landscaped setting

Original work. Protected legacy.

Intellectual
Property Rights

A clear statement on the ownership, use and protection of VELA sculpture, commissioned designs and creative materials.

VELA Sculpture Rights & permissions

The essential distinction

The artwork, the object and the rights are related—but not the same.

VELA respects original authorship and the trust behind every acquisition. These principles explain what ownership of a finished sculpture includes and which creative rights remain protected.

01

You own the physical work

After full payment and delivery, the purchaser owns the sculpture as a tangible object, subject to the applicable sales agreement.

02

Creative rights remain protected

Copyright, design rights, drawings, molds, models and digital assets do not transfer with the object unless a signed agreement expressly says so.

03

Permission should be written

Commercial reproduction, adaptation, licensing or use of protected project material requires prior written authorization from the relevant rights holder.

A statement of respect for original creation

This statement describes VELA’s general intellectual property practices. It does not replace or amend a signed sales, commission, artist, licensing or collaboration agreement. Where a written agreement applies, that agreement controls.

01

Scope and purpose

VELA Sculpture values the creative labor behind every sculpture. This statement applies to original and editioned sculpture, bespoke concepts, drawings, renderings, photographs, video, website content, technical documents, models, molds, samples, brand elements and other creative material made, commissioned, licensed or presented by VELA.

Protection may arise under copyright, trademark, design, unfair competition, contract and other applicable laws. Nothing here claims exclusive rights in ideas, methods or material that the law leaves unprotected.

02

Ownership of original works

Unless another rights holder is identified, VELA or its licensors retain the intellectual property rights in the original expression embodied in VELA designs and creative materials. Those rights may include the right to reproduce, adapt, distribute, display and authorize derivative uses of a work.

Edition numbers, certificates of authenticity and provenance records identify a physical work; they do not, by themselves, assign copyright or grant reproduction rights.

03

When you purchase a sculpture

Ownership of the physical sculpture transfers according to the applicable order or sales agreement. The purchaser may possess, install, display, maintain, resell or transfer that object, subject to law and any written restrictions disclosed at sale.

Purchase of the object does not automatically transfer copyright, design files, molds, fabrication methods or a right to reproduce the work. Any transfer or exclusive license of intellectual property must be clearly stated in a signed written agreement.

04

Bespoke commissions and client materials

Rights in a commissioned sculpture, concept, drawing or project deliverable are governed by the signed commission agreement. Paying for design development or fabrication does not, on its own, make every underlying creative asset a work made for hire or transfer all intellectual property rights.

Clients who provide photographs, plans, logos, artwork or other reference material confirm that they own, license or otherwise have permission to use and share it for the project. VELA will use client-confidential materials only as reasonably necessary to develop and deliver the commission, subject to the applicable agreement.

05

Digital content, photography and 3D files

Website photography, video, copy, renderings, CAD data, 3D models, scans, production drawings and other digital assets are protected creative material. Viewing or downloading publicly available content does not grant a license to reproduce, train a commercial model on, manufacture from, sell, publish or distribute that content.

Project images may be shared for private reference or editorial discussion when the source is clearly credited and the use is lawful. Advertising, merchandising, paid media, product replication and other commercial uses require prior written permission.

06

Trademarks and brand identifiers

VELA SCULPTURE, the VELA name, logos, monograms, trade dress and related identifiers are owned by VELA or used with permission. They may not be copied, altered or used in a way that suggests sponsorship, affiliation or endorsement without written authorization.

07

Permissions and prohibited uses

Unless permitted by law or a signed agreement, you may not:

  • copy, cast, scan, reproduce or manufacture a protected sculpture or design;
  • create or distribute unauthorized molds, replicas, adaptations or derivative works;
  • remove or falsify signatures, edition marks, credits or rights-management information;
  • use VELA creative material, project imagery or branding to market unrelated goods or services;
  • sell, sublicense, publish or provide production files, drawings or models to another fabricator.

Requests for editorial, educational, exhibition, film, publication or commercial use are considered individually. A permission is valid only for the purpose, territory, duration and media stated in writing.

08

Artists, collaborators and third-party rights

Some works and materials may be created with independent artists, architects, photographers, fabricators or licensors. Their rights and attribution requirements remain subject to the relevant agreements. A VELA presentation or sale does not imply that VELA owns every third-party element shown.

References to architecture, landscapes, client sites or other brands remain the property of their respective owners and are used only to identify project context.

09

Reporting, enforcement and updates

VELA may investigate suspected infringement and pursue appropriate contractual or legal remedies. If you believe content presented by VELA infringes your rights, please provide the work involved, the page or material at issue, your contact details and evidence of ownership or authority to act.

We may update this statement as our practice, technology or applicable law evolves. The version presented on this page is the current statement. Rights and remedies vary by jurisdiction; questions about a specific acquisition or commission should be read together with its signed agreement.
